LEJO TYPE was created in response to a live brief in collaboration with Dalton Maag, in which the brief was to design a typeface based on a piece of architecture, and then create a type specimen and promotional design to contextualise it.
I chose to reflect São Bento station in Porto, Portugal; I visited in 2024 and I thought it was incredibly beautiful - it’s filled with over 20,000 traditional blue and white Azulejo tiles.
To reflect the mixed use of the building as a tourist hotspot and a commuter hub, I designed a display typeface that can function in both Portuguese & English, while bringing together the station’s historic tile features with the modern branding of Metro Do Porto.
